Week of 28th March…

Today 40 16-18 year olds visited our Psychology department to learn more about research and take part in experiments.

On Saturday Courtenay is running a workshop at the NAPLIC conference.  It is titled ‘What the eyes say about language and communication’ and will explore how eye-tracking can be used to investigate language processing in real time.

Week of 21st March…

This week Becca is continuing testing in schools.

Saturday is science open day!  There will be a range of activites, including the opportunity to learn more about and take part in our research!  Follow this link for more information…

Week of 14th March…

This week David and Rebecca are visiting a primary school in Surrey so that some of the children can take part in the ‘EyeSay!’ and ‘Reading between the lines’ research studies.

Rebecca and Pam are also visiting a specialist school to do the ‘Reading between the lines’ activities with some pupils who have a diagnosis of Autism.

2011

New Grant awarded:
Courtenay has been awarded a £500,000 grant from the Wellcome Trust for the Surrey Communication and Language in Education Study (SCALES) which is the first epidemiological study of language risk in the UK!  You can find out more about the study on the SCALES website http://www.scalestudy.co.uk/

2009

New Grant awarded:

Dr Courtenay Norbury has been awarded a three-year grant from the Economic and Social Research Council for a project entitled Eye Say: Investigating language production processes in typical and atypical development. The project will use eye-movement technology to learn more about how children with autism spectrum disorders and more specific language impairments plan what they are going to talk about and what factors make it more or less difficult to then say what they want to say. 2008

New Book Published

  July 2008 saw publication of Understanding Developmental Language Disorders, edited by Courtenay and her colleagues Dorothy Bishop and Bruce Tomblin. You can buy a copy here!

 

Newest Addition to the Lab!

July 2008 also saw the arrival of Courtenay’s baby girl. Rowan Hazel Norbury was born on the 18th of July and is a daily reminder of how exciting language and social development is! She’s also a seasoned scientist, participating in experiments at the Royal Holloway Babylab
